Awards of $10,000 to USA young military dependents, ages 13 to 18, to recognize their exceptional ability to succeed despite the challenges of military family life. One award will be given to a young nominee who has devised an original and bold solution to address a local, regional, or global challenge. In addition to cash prizes, all awardees will also receive a laptop computer and other donated gifts and will be flown with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C. for the gala award presentation, during which senior leaders of each branch of service will present the awards.

The annual awards recognizes eight outstanding young people ages 13 to 18. Of those, seven will represent a branch of the armed forces — the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Space Force — for their scholarship, volunteerism, leadership, extracurricular involvement, and other criteria while facing the challenges of military family life. The eighth award is the Military Child of the Year Award for Innovation presented by Booz Allen Hamilton. This award goes to a military child who has designed a bold and creative solution to address a local, regional or global challenge.

Anyone may nominate a child for this award, so long as the child meets the following eligibility requirements:

- Child must be a legal military dependent. Status confirmed by DEERS enrollment form.
- Child must be between the ages of 13 and 18 at the time of nomination.

If the Veteran is a "military retiree", the child of a retired veteran is eligible to apply. Officers, directors, employees, and agents of Operation Homefront and its subsidiaries or affiliated organizations, and their immediate family members (parent, child, sibling, and spouse of each) and those living in the same households of each are not eligible to receive programs, services, grants, or donated goods intended for use by Operation Homefront’s clients.

Previous Military Child of the Year Award® Recipients, to include Innovation Award recipients, are no longer eligible.

Pre-Application Information:

Nominations are now OPEN and will close on December 1, 2021.

Parents, siblings, teachers, coaches, clergy, neighbors, grandparents, and anyone familiar with the child’s achievements may submit a nomination.

The child and one adult guardian must be available to travel to the Washington, D.C. area for the Gala award presentation.

All award recipients will receive their laptop and cash award on or near the date of the Gala in Washington, D.C.

While each child can only win one award, he/she can be considered for both.

The Military Child of the Year® Award for Innovation recipient will work with a team of Booz Allen employees to develop a plan to scale the project, drawing on technology and strategic thinking.
